New Student Convocation 2013

All new Florida State University students, family members, and current students, staff and faculty are invited to the 2013 New Student Convocation ceremony on Sunday, August 25th at the Donald L. Tucker Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center.

All new students must attend Convocation, which marks their entrance into the life and traditions of Florida State University. Family members and friends of new students are also invited to attend. New students will be welcomed by the President, the Provost, deans, and outstanding student leaders. The ceremony celebrates the history of Florida State University's academic community and calls upon students to make a commitment to live by the values embodied in the torches on the University seal: strength, skill, & character.

Convocation will be held in the Tallahassee-Leon County Civic Center, which is within walking distance from campus. Buses will also be available to shuttle residence hall students and family members from campus residence halls to Convocation at no charge. Buses will run from 12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. A map of this special convocation bus route and the stops can be found by visiting Convocation Bus Route. Nearby parking will also be available in FSU parking garage #5 at the corner of Pensacola and Copeland (free) and the Civic Center Parking lot ($8.00 fee). For driving directions, visit Driving Directions to Convocation. The doors will open at 12:00 p.m., pre-Convocation musical entertainment will begin at 1:00 p.m., and the ceremony will take place from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. You are encouraged to arrive early (by 1:00 p.m.) to allow time for seating and the musical entertainment.

Class of 2017 President's T-Shirt & Backyard BBQ:
Additionally, President Barron is providing a FREE FSU academic college t-shirt to each member of the freshman class. These unique shirts will bear the University's academic seal and the name of the academic college which corresponds to the student's major of choice. Each college's t-shirt will also be a different color, making it easy to identify other students who are also majoring in areas in your college. Students are asked to wear their academic college t-shirt to New Student Convocation and the President's Class of 2017 Backyard BBQ (3 p.m. - 5 p.m. at the President's House) on August 25.
