2012 Early-Arrival Orientation Programs Information

Florida State University recognizes that certain student populations may benefit from additional orientation programming and an opportunity to network with other students similar to themselves. Because of this select summer orientation sessions will offer optional (FREE) early-arrival programming prior (1 p.m. - 5:45 p.m.) to the start of the regular orientation schedule. These programs will cater to the needs of out-of-state students and students starting at FSU with 30 or more hours of academic credit. If you belong to either of these categories but cannot attend an early-arrival program, don't worry. The regular freshmen/-lower-division transfer orientation program is designed to still meet all of your needs without attendance at an early-arrival program - this is just an additional opportunity. Regular freshmen/lower-division transfer orientation programs will always start with check-in at 7 p.m. at the Wildwood Residence Hall.

WHO QUALIFIES FOR PARTICIPATION IN AN EARLY-ARRIVIAL PROGRAM:
Participation in an early-arrival program prior to the start of your orientation program is an optional addition to the required freshmen/lower-division orientation program. These programs are open to family members attending orientation with their student. Florida State University offers two early-arrival programs. One is appropriate for out-of-state students and the other for academically accelerated students beginning college with a significant (30+) number of earned academic college credit hours. For the purpose of early-arrival orientation programs, we define "out-of-state student" and "academically accelerated students" as follows:
- Out-Of-State Students: Regardless of legal Florida residency status used to determine rate of tuition, this includes any student who graduated from high school outside the State of Florida.
- Academically Accelerated Students: Freshmen/lower-division transfer students who anticipate starting college at FSU having already earned an Associate of Arts (A.A.) Degree or 30+ academic college credit hours (approximately 10 classes) by exam (AP, IB, AICE, CLEP) or dual enrollment.

WHAT IS THE EARLY-ARRIVAL PROGRAM:
Florida State University offers optional programming appropriate for out-of-state and academically accelerated (see above) students and family members which takes place from 1 p.m. - 5:45 p.m. the afternoon before the start of the official (required) freshmen/lower-division orientation program. These programs provide an opportunity for students/family members to network with other entering students/families that are similar to them and to learn about additional resources, opportunities, and information that may add to their FSU experience or promote their successful transition to college.

WHEN WILL EARLY-ARRIVAL PROGRAMS SESSIONS TAKE PLACE:
Early-arrival programs will only take place prior to the start of select freshmen/lower-division transfer orientation programs. You must be pre-registered for a corresponding orientation program before RSVPing to attend an early-arrival program.
- SUMMER 2012 Admitted Freshmen/Lower-Division Transfer Students:
Academically Accelerated Early-Arrival offered before session C6 (May 30-June 1) on May 30.
- FALL 2012 Admitted Freshmen/Lower-Division Transfer Students:
Out-Of-State Early-Arrival offered before session A14 (June 25-27) on June 25.
Academically Accelerated Early-Arrival offered before session A5 (June 6-8) on June 6 and A16 (June 27-29) on June 27.

HOW TO RSVP YOUR PARTICIPATION:
To RSVP for a FREE early-arrival program you must first be registered (including payment) for the freshmen/lower-division orientation program which corresponds to that early-arrival orientation program. It will not be possible to participate in both the out-of-state and academically accelerated early-arrival programs as they do not occur during the same orientation sessions. Space in early-arrival programs is limited just like it is for specific orientation program dates. If you wish to attend orientation on specific dates or participate in an early-arrival program you are encouraged to register for orientation and RSVP for the early-arrival program ASAP. The deadline to register/pay for orientation is May 1, 2012. This is also the RSVP deadline to participate in an early-arrival program; sessions and programs may close before May 1 should capacity be reached.
