Family Orientation

New Student & Family Programs offers family orientation programming during all transfer and freshmen student orientation sessions. The family program is run concurrently with, but separate from, the student schedule. During various presentations and programs, family members will learn more about all areas of their student’s college experience.

Spending this time with us provides family members with a great opportunity to ask questions and truly understand The Florida State University and their student’s college transition. Our family member programming is designed to be very informative, and we encourage all attendees to be present for the planned presentations and orientation events. Family members will receive a detailed schedule upon arrival.

Family Connection: In addition to attending orientation with your student, we encourage families to connect with Family Connection. Learn about opportunities for family members to be engaged & informed about their student's Seminole journey.

Here are just a few examples of presentations you will attend when you participant in family orientation:

Campus Networking Sessions: Health Professions Advising, International Programs, Parking & Transportation, Campus Computing & Telecommunications, FSU Libraries, FSUCard... The list goes on and on! Departments from around campus will give presentations on how they serve your students at FSU. Family participants are able to pick and choose which session they would like to attend.

Advisor Training for Families: “What if my students doesn’t like his or her major?” “What is the forgiveness policy?” “What are the liberal studies requirements?” Have these questions and more answered as representatives from the Division of Undergraduate Studies share information on every aspect of academic life at the University.

Campus Safety: Learn from the FSU Police Department ways in which your students can take precautions and use good judgment when securing themselves and their property. Other office representatives will share student disciplinary standards and services available to students who are victims of crime.

Financial Aid & Student Health Center Sessions: Learn the nuts & bolts of how to navigate the university system.

Ask the Experts: This is your opportunity to talk with current FSU students — our Orientation Leaders! Join us for a question and answer session to learn more about the FSU community.

Students can pre-register up to three family members for orientation via our website. If you forget to register a family member, additional family members can be registered as walk-ins during your orientation check-in. The cost of the family orientation program is per person. Two-day summer/fall programs will also include an orientation meal plan for all participants (three all-you-care-to-eat meals). If you have any questions, contact the Office of New Student & Family Programs.

We look forward to seeing you at orientation!
