These New Nole Orientation sessions are a three day, overnight program. These sessions are intended for First-Time in College Students admitted for the summer or fall semester.
For these sessions, we provide an optional, yet highly encouraged orientation meal plan which consists of breakfast, lunch, and dinner on Day 2 and breakfast on Day 3. Additionally, students are encouraged to stay overnight in Wildwood Residence Hall.
In order to successfully register for classes, it is required for students to attend all components of New Nole Orientation. Attendance will be taken to ensure your presence.

Please note that all orientation fees are non-refundable. At minimum, students must pay the $35 base orientation fee in order to complete their reservation.
These costs allow us access to facilities, materials, staff, and services that ensure a smooth and positive Orientation experience. Though Housing and the Meals are optional, we highly recommend utilizing these services throughout your stay.

Orientation sessions have a limited capacity of students allowed to attend each session.
Space for each orientation session is available on a first come, first served basis; once a session is filled, it will no longer appear as an option. Session availability may change as sessions close due to reaching maximum capacity, or as spaces open up due to students changing their reservation to a different date or cancelling their admission to the University.
To see which session dates are still available, you must log into the orientation reservation system through the myFSU portal.
Admissions Deposit
The University requires a non-refundable admission deposit of $200 from freshmen accepted for the summer and fall terms. This deposit confirms your enrollment intention and secures your place in our first-year class. You should submit your deposit as soon as you decide that Florida State is your college choice, but no later than May 1.
If your deposit is not received by May 1, your admission to the University is subject to cancellation. The $200 admission deposit can be paid by logging in to your Application Status Check.
You must pay your non-refundable admission deposit before you are able to register for an orientation session. Please allow up to 24 hours for the payment to process before accessing the orientation registration portal.
First-year students accepted for the summer and fall terms must register for Orientation by May 5. If you do not register for Orientation by May 5, your admission to the University is subject to cancellation.
How to Register
- Log in to your myFSU portal using your FSUID.
- Look for the prompt on your screen under the Admissions Information tile.
- Click the link to access the Orientation registration system and complete your reservation.
Your space will not be reserved until payment is received.
At New Nole Orientation, you will:
- Meet your Orientation Leader and connect with some of your peers during Torch Groups.
- Learn more about your college, major, and degree requirements by meeting FSU faculty and staff.
- Speak with and hear from key campus partners for your FSU experience.
- Learn about the greater Tallahassee area and what it has to offer.
- Become familiar with FSU policies and procedures.
- Attend academic advising and enroll in your courses.
Attendance Policy
In order to successfully register for classes, it is required for students to attend all components of New Nole Orientation. Attendance will be taken to ensure your presence.
Orientation Agreement
The following terms are outlined in the orientation registration portal and should be read before completing your orientation reservation in order to ensure understanding and compliance with orientation guidelines and expectations.
- I have read and understand all of the information available at nsfp.fsu.edu.
- I understand that all Orientation fees are non-refundable.
- I understand that Orientation participation is mandatory for all newly admitted, degree-seeking undergraduate students. If I miss any portion of my scheduled Orientation, I may be required to repeat Orientation at my own cost. I understand I will be unable to register for my courses until I have fully completed Orientation.
- I understand that the University highly encourages each student to have at least one family member attend Orientation, so the family can gain information and be best prepared to help the student transition to the University.
- All orientation participants must adhere to University policies. New students violating Orientation expectations, University policy, or the law will be removed from the orientation program and/or campus immediately. These students will be subject to the student conduct process as outlined in the Student Conduct Code and the outcome may result in loss of admission to Florida State University.
- I understand that the University requires each student to submit Health History/Immunization Compliance Forms and complete Health Insurance Verification process before they will be able to register for classes at the conclusion of Orientation.
- I understand that Orientation reservations cannot be held without payment.
- I understand that space at each orientation session is available on a first-come, first-served basis until sessions have reached their maximum capacity and I accept that sessions may close at any time.

Register for Family Orientation
Students can register family members for Family Orientation through their myFSU portal.
Please ensure that all of the following actions are completed prior to attending your New Nole Orientation session.
Review your Admission Status Check
Log into the Application Status Check to review your application/admission decision status, verify your major, confirm your residency status, and verify completion of the Immunization and Insurance requirements.
You should check your status once a week to see what has changed or is outstanding:
- Pay your Admissions Deposit by the deadline (summer and fall freshman admits only).
- Use Admissions Online Status Check frequently to verify your residency status, major, health immunization and insurance compliance, and more.
- Complete the required steps to declare Florida Residency, if applicable.
Complete Immunization Requirement
In order to register for classes at FSU, all main campus students are required to submit a one-time Immunization Form showing proof of required immunizations.
After submitting the Immunization Form, you can confirm that the form has been received by checking your Application Status Check or by contacting the Health Compliance Office (University Health Services) at healthcompliance@fsu.edu or 850-644-3608.

Please note: If you do not complete the immunization and insurance requirements prior to attending orientation, you may have a health hold on your account which will prevent you from registering for classes.
Complete Health Insurance Requirement
FSU requires all domestic full time, main campus students and all International students with F or J visa types to show proof of health insurance coverage. You must either provide proof of health insurance coverage and submit a waiver OR enroll in the FSU-sponsored plan.

Researching Housing Options
If you are a student seeking on-campus housing, complete a housing contract through University Housing as early as possible after you have been accepted to FSU. For information about contracts, upcoming deadlines, and living at FSU, visit housing.fsu.edu/future-residents.

Complete the Student Financial Responsibility Agreement
When you login to MyFSU, you'll notice that you have a Student Financial Responsibility hold and a to-do list every semester before your enrollment window opens for that term. The Student Financial Responsibility Agreement ensures that you understand the financial repercussions of enrolling in classes at Florida State University. The agreement outlines the University’s expectations for payment, holds, the employment of collection agencies, contact methods and procedures as well as tax document delivery methods.

Apply for Financial Aid and/or Bright Futures Awards
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), is available beginning October 1st every year. All students are encouraged to complete the FAFSA at their earliest opportunity. A completed FAFSA is the first step to determining your eligibility for most types of federal, state, or institutional aid. These aid types include all types of grants, work study and federal loans. If eligible, apply for Bright Futures (while in high school) and notify Bright Futures which university you are attending.
Prepare for Academic Advising
Bring any applicable information you have about possible college credit including:
- AP, IB, AICE, CLEP (scores or a list of tests taken)
- Dual enrollment (college transcripts or list of courses)
- Transfer credit (transcripts or a list of courses)

Familiarize Yourself with FSU Technology
myFSU ID: Your FSUID is your username for signing in and accessing many Florida State University systems and resources, including myFSU Portal, Canvas, OMNI and Wi-Fi. FSUIDs are issued to all prospective students, student applicants, students, faculty, staff and some FSU guests and vendors. You will use this username nearly every day during your time as a Nole.
myFSU Portal: myFSU Portal serves as a personal gateway to the links, tools and resources you need to be successful at Florida State University. As a student, you have quick access to your courses and finances, where you can manage everything from financial aid to adding and dropping classes.
FSU Email: Your FSU e-mail account is where FSU will communicate with you regularly, so check this often!
Canvas: Canvas is the institution’s academic courses management system information. This is a hub in which all of your class materials will be stored, you can reach out to professors and classmates, submit assignments, and more.
DuoMobile: 2FA (Duo) is an extra layer of security designed to prevent unauthorized access to your personal information. It requires you to verify your identity twice—once with your password and once with your mobile device—before you can access sensitive information within FSU systems. This extra step of making sure you are who you say you are helps secure your account and keep your personal information where it belongs—with you.
myFSU Mobile: myFSU Mobile is Florida State University’s official mobile app and on-the-go resource for everything FSU. Gain instant access to the latest campus news and events, as well as real-time bus tracking, maps, dining locations, sports scores, library hours and much more.

Complete your Pre- Orientation Modules
Ahead of your New Nole Orientation session, ensure that all of your Pre-Orientation Modules are completed. If you do not complete these, there will be a Pre-Orientation Module Hold on your myFSU account that will prevent you from registering for classes.
Access Educational Benefits with the Student Veterans Center (if applicable)
If you are a new student veteran or a qualifying dependent of a United States veteran who plans to use your educational benefits under the GI Bill, begin that process now by visiting veterans.fsu.edu.
Parking
You will receive a one-time, special Orientation Parking Permit in your pre-arrival email. This permit should be placed on your dashboard and should be clearly visible at all times while on campus.
- This permit authorizes you to park in white line spaces ONLY.
- You are responsible for fees associated with Hourly Spaces/Visitor Lots.
- Do not park in Reserved Spaces or other Restricted Areas.
- Accessible Parking Spaces are allowed when accompanied by the appropriate state-issued accessible parking placard.
- Improper parking may result in a parking citation.
- No back-in parking.

New Nole Orientation Check-In
New Nole Orientation Check-In will take place from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the FSU Student Union (75 N. Woodward Ave) on Day 1. Students and family members will receive their nametags, schedules, and additional materials. Students must be present at Check-In.
What to Bring
Though we try to provide all necessary items, we recommend bringing the following with you to New Nole Orientation:
- Government-issued ID
- Unofficial copy of any college transcripts, CLEP, IB, and AP scores (if applicable)
- Proof of immunization records and insurance coverage (if not previously submitted)
- New Nole Orientation Parking Permit
- Pen and notebook for note-taking
- Laptop or tablet to use for course registration
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Umbrella or rain jacket
- Reusable water bottle and snacks
Overnight Housing Accommodations for Students (Optional)
For students who opted in for Overnight Housing Accommodations, Housing Check-In will take place from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Wildwood Hall.
If you opted in for Overnight Housing Accommodations, you will need to bring these additional items:
- Sheets and blankets
- Pillows
- Towels
- Toiletries
- Shower shoes
- Any additional items you may need for a two-night stay.
Special Populations
New Nole Orientation assists several special populations of students through their transition into FSU. Find your special population below (if applicable) to learn more about your orientation experience.
If you have been accepted into FSU’s Honors Programs, you can attend any of the available New Nole Orientation sessions. Each session will have specific opportunities to address the needs of Honors Students.
Students and families who speak Spanish and would like the option to have Spanish-speaking resources and individuals available will be able to attend specific New Nole Orientation sessions.
These sessions will include Spanish copies of our Orientation Guide and presentations, as well as Spanish-speaking Orientation Leaders.
CARE Summer Bridge Students will attend a specific New Nole Orientation sessions prior to the start of their summer term at FSU.
CARE Summer Bridge students will attend New Nole Orientation, and start their summer bridge program immediately after they move into their summer residence hall.

First Year Abroad (FYA) and First Semester Abroad (FSA) students will attend a specific New Nole Orientation in Tallahassee prior to going abroad.
This sessions is intended to cover basic information related to their overall FSU experience, not just their study abroad experience. This includes everything from academic policy and procedures, academic advising, class registration, packing tips, and finances to Study Center specifics and safety.

International Students are able to attend any New Nole Orientation session.

Changing or Cancelling Your Session
Please note that all orientation fees are non-refundable.
Changes can be made to the reservation up to one week prior to your scheduled session. This includes changing your session date (pending availability), adding on orientation housing or meal plan, and adding or removing guests.
Changes to orientation housing and/or meal plan cannot be made on site.
All payments must be made through the orientation registration system, which can be accessed through the myFSU portal.
