Welcome to Orientation at Florida State University! New Nole Orientation is designed to help students successfully transition into the FSU community. For each section below, click the arrow to view more information, including session descriptions and important reminders.
7:30 a.m. Check-In and Taking Care of Business
Student and Family, Student Union
- During this time, students and families will check in for their orientation session.
- Students and families can meet with University Health Services representatives to submit Immunization forms and ask questions about Health Insurance.
- Breakfast will be available for students and families who opted into the Orientation Meal Plan on the Second Floor. Students and family members who requested dietary accommodations must speak to a member of the Legacy Catering staff.
- For students and families who did not opt into the Orientation Meal Plan, there are several dining options available on the First Floor of the Student Union.
8:30 a.m. Welcome
Student and Family, Student Union - Ballroom E
- Welcome to Florida State University and New Nole Orientation! This session allows students and families to partake in an FSU tradition, meet the Orientation Leaders, and see an overview of the day ahead.
9 a.m. Money Matters
Student and Family, Student Union - Ballroom E
- This session is presented by the Offices of Financial Aid and Student Business Services will help you understand the steps needed to make sure eligible aid is awarded, charges addressed, and disbursement take place in a timely fashion.
9:30 a.m. It's All Academic

- In this session, the Undergraduate Studies staff will discuss academic requirements, including CoreFSU and University graduation requirements, as well as how to appropriately support your student and help them succeed academically during their time at FSU.
10:30 a.m.Student Torch Group (Student) and Family Matters (Family)

- In this small group session, you will learn about more FSU resources and tips and tricks from your Orientation Leader.
- Family Matters (Family) in Ballroom D
- This session will share resources and ideas that you need as family members supporting your students through the transition to FSU.
11:30 a.m. Lunch and Resource Fair

- Lunch will be available for students and families who opted into the Orientation Meal Plan on the Second Floor. Students and family members who requested dietary accommodations must speak to a member of the Legacy Catering staff.
- For students and families who did not opt into the Orientation Meal Plan, there are several dining options available on the First Floor of the Student Union.
- During this time, walk around the various tables at the Resource Fair on the Lower Level, Mezzanine, and Second Floor to learn more about some of the many resources and opportunities available at FSU.
12:30 p.m.Experience FSU

- Join the FSU Student Union, Campus Recreation, and Student Engagement in this session that talks about the ways students can get involved and build community on campus.
1 p.m.Countdown to Course Registration and Academic Advising
Student, Student Union - Ballroom E
- An Orientation Leader will guide students to their academic advising location.
- Students will meet briefly with their academic advisor, who will recommend the best classes for them based on their program of study.
- Make sure to bring copies of any unofficial transcripts, and let your advisor know about any anticipated or earned AP/IB/AICE/CLEP credit.
- Ensure there are not any holds on your account that might prevent you from registering for classes.
- After advising, you will be able to register for your first semester of classes at FSU.
1 p.m.Ask the OL's and Family Send-Off
Family, Student Union - Ballroom D
- In this Q&A session, families will hear from Orientation Leaders about their experiences at FSU and have the opportunity to ask any questions that are left at the end of the day.
- Following this session, families should make sure to stay in contact with their student so they can meet up after advising concludes.
1:30 p.m.Course Registration Lab

- For any additional questions about registering for classes, students can visit our Course Registration Labs after advising. There will be professional staff available to support the registration process.
- This is a great space to register for classes if a student did not bring their laptop or tablet to register for classes. These labs are hosted in computer labs on campus.
